Ask which diet was actually studied
“Mediterranean” is a broad description. A research programme may prescribe particular foods, provide olive oil or nuts, and include regular support. A website’s meal ideas are not automatically the same intervention.
The British Heart Foundation describes evidence supporting Mediterranean eating for cardiovascular health. That does not mean every diet using the name is interchangeable, or that an individual meal guarantees a health benefit.
Our adaptation has a different emphasis
This website uses less pasta, bread, rice and potatoes than many traditional Mediterranean patterns. The practical aim is to make meals less reliant on starch while keeping familiar flavours and varied ingredients.
We do not present that variation as a clinically tested programme. Nor do we claim that less carbohydrate is always better. Your starting diet, overall food choices, energy needs and medical circumstances all affect what is suitable.
What about weight loss?
No meal list guarantees weight loss. Portions, total intake, activity, sleep, medicines and your circumstances can all play a part. Oil and nuts are useful ingredients, but adding unlimited amounts is not a weight-loss strategy.
A plan is more useful when it gives you meals you can repeat and makes space for individual advice. If weight management is your goal, agree a suitable approach with your healthcare team rather than relying on a promised result.
What about diabetes?
Food changes can affect blood glucose and medication needs. The Dudley Group’s information discusses several dietary approaches, including lower-carbohydrate and Mediterranean patterns, in the context of type 2 diabetes care.
If you take insulin or glucose-lowering medicines, seek advice before a substantial carbohydrate reduction. Do not use this website to choose medication doses. Very restrictive eating is not a necessary part of our general meal ideas.
Keep claims in proportion
Be cautious about guaranteed cures, fixed timelines and claims that one ingredient is the answer. Look for sources, the population studied and the limits of the evidence. Our guides are educational resources, not a replacement for personal medical or dietetic support.
